How to Plan Your Research: Insights from Our Doctoral Webinar

On 26 September, Paris American International University welcomed doctoral researchers to a webinar led by Dr Amna Mezni on turning a research idea into a manageable project.

Dr Mezni encouraged participants to begin with a clear research question, then build a roadmap linking the literature review, methodology, data collection, writing, and final submission.  Her practical advice was to plan around milestones and deliverables: define what each stage should produce, not simply the tasks to complete.

She also emphasised that writing belongs throughout the research process.
Regular check-ins with a supervisor can help researchers assess progress and make informed adjustments. Because access to data and other circumstances may change, a sound plan should include time for delays and an alternative approach where needed.

The webinar closed with a small but useful habit: end each research session by identifying the next concrete action. A doctoral project takes time, but progress becomes easier to sustain when the next step is clear.

We thank Dr Mezni and everyone who joined the discussion.
