Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the Master of TESOL Program will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of a range of contemporary and historical theories which are encompassed within child development and educational psychology evidence-informed domains.
  • Understand how language and culture are inter-connected in the TESOL context and review key research related to language and culture.
  • Have a critical understanding of basic ELT terminology and practical techniques involved in teaching English.
  • Apply theoretical principles to classroom practice and have the ability to cope with challenging learning and teaching situations.
  • Design a course and assessment tools taking into consideration the language needs of groups and individuals and present a course taking into account the different stakeholders (teachers, learners, education officers and training managers).
  • Critically examine the interface between pedagogy, SLA theory, CALL theory through discussion of selected articles/readings and to explain the role of technology in FL instruction.
  • Develop the understanding of the factors that led to the ESP uprise and the forces, both theoretical and applied, that have shaped its subsequent development.
  • Know the basic technology and common platforms used to teach online.

PAIU’s Master of TESOL program takes approximately six to twelve months to complete. Courses are based on a flexible and self-learning structure to accommodate each student’s business and personal responsibilities.

Students may be required to pass a final examination in which a minimum score of 70% is needed in order to successfully pass the course. Some courses may have a Final Project due as well.

The e-learning system is an online educational management system with tailored course materials where students and lecturers interact. Course materials include: presentations, readings, videos, assignments, quizzes, and a final exam. Following enrollment, a unique username and password will be issued for each student to access the e-learning platform.
